The Writer's Life 1/8 - Shop Talk

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC as someone has smartly dubbed her, needs more publicity. Geez, she's getting more attention than the Kardashians.

There's concern among NYC shopkeepers about illegal awnings. In some cases they've been in existence for decades and are now suddenly a concern of bureaucrats. The rumor that a proprietor received a $6000 fine has created a wave of removals. When I noted a nails shop removing theirs a week or so ago, I wondered if it were because of copyright infringement. The pic below is of a bar and restaurant that recently removed their signage. The nail shop is to the right of Vision Associates, out of the picture. Today the beauty parlor at the corner to the left, also out of the picture, removed its awning. The people who run the government of this town are insane.

I stopped watching college football years ago when it too closely began to resemble the NFL, especially in length of games. Still, one must admire a team that finishes 15-0 and defeated a squad that was previously undefeated, mighty Alabama. And they did it with a true freshman at QB. Hail, Clemson. It looks like Trevor Lawrence will be the number one player in the draft when he finishes his college career.

How 'bout this from today's NY Post, edited by yours truly: Lady Gaga's ex-boyfriend, a producer, claims he was robbed of $265,000. He says he kept it in his oven, locked in a heavy duty storage case. It went missing after he was evicted from his Hell's Kitchen apartment. He accuses management. It's hard to feel sorry for someone who would keep that amount of cash in his flat. Then again, he may be lying, trying to gain leverage in his legal fight.

Through 187 pages of the second proof of Inside Out, I've made 16 changes. The latest were the elimination of an unnecessary quotation mark, and a paragraph indentation. I'm not spotting many errors. I hope I'm not glossing over the content.

I lucked into the perfect parking spot this morning, which allowed me to open shop under the scaffold, out of the sprinkles. My thanks to Ira, who added Weird Washington to his collection of that state by state series, the only sale on this mild winter day.
