The Writer's Life 11/6 - Crime

I've said this before - I'm not comfortable around guns but if a creep starts shooting in my presence one day I hope there will be an armed citizen present to take him out. Kudos to the guy who lived across the street from the Texas church.

Given the actions of thugs in yesterday's NFL games, players should be kneeling to protest such behavior.

Here's a great story from Yahoo's Odd News, in my own words: Packages of electronics products were disappearing from Swedish postal trucks. Concealed cameras were mounted inside the back of one to crack the mystery. The items, laptops, computers and smart-phones, etc., were estimated to be worth about $300,000. The cameras picked up two men leaping onto the moving truck from the hood of a car traveling behind it. The truck was going 50 mph. The crooks cut and removed the padlocks on the move. Four men — all non-Swedes — were arrested during an operation involving unmarked police cars. They are suspected of being part of an international gang. Similar thefts have occurred in other parts of Europe. Too bad there's no video available other than one of a series of stills. I expect a TV crime drama to soon use this highly cinematic M.O.. Here's a still from youtube screen grab:

The rain held off, allowing the floating book shop to operate. My thanks to Ira, who bought a NYC 1980's aerial pictorial and The Sewing Circle: Hollywood's Greatest Secret: Female Stars Who Loved Other Women by Alex Madsen; and to the elderly woman in a wheelchair who purchased Stephen King's The Dark Half, and her attendant who chose Hemingway on Fishing, a compilation of excerpts from his books, fiction and non; and to the gentleman who bought a huge cook book on grilling and Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.
