The Writer's Life 1/8 - Bits & Pieces

Today's NY Post is chock full of interesting items. Here's a summary of a few of them: Members of a Park Slope food co-op have allegedly stolen $18,000 in groceries, prompting one man to say: "Socialism is never going to work if we're going to be greedy." Why would anyone be surprised by theft from those who have been conditioned to a sense of entitlement?... To date, through five years, the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal has cost Penn St. $237 million... The American Dialect Society has summed up 2016 in one term: "Dumpster Fire," which it defines as "an exceedingly disastrous or chaotic situation."... Here's what one woman spent to compete in the Miss New York USA pageant in 2015: hair and makeup, $1800; hair removal, $300; evening gown, $1500; shoes, $60; manicure/pedicure, $100; fitness trainer, $370; pageant coach, $200; speech coach, $3600; walking coach, $1000; head-shots, $1200; swimsuit, $300; dress for pageant interview, $100;
registration and participation fees, $1800; grand total - $12,130. She didn't make it to the second round.

I found the following at There is one lawyer for every 19 residents in Washington DC (Not surprising)... Luxembourg is the place where you are least likely to get a fatal gun shot.

And here are quotes attributed to Elvis, pulled from a list at “When things go wrong, don't go with them.” “If you let your head get too big, it'll break your neck.” “The image is one thing and the human being is another. It's very hard to live up to an image, put it that way.” “Sad thing is, you can still love someone and be wrong for them.”

It was too cold and windy to sell books on the street today. If the wind dies down and the sun is strong tomorrow, I'll probably be out there.
