The Writer's Life 5/14 - Stay Tuned

Kudos to the NY Rangers, who came back from a three-one series deficit to defeat Washington and advance to the third round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. If you’re going to fall behind anyone, it probably best be the Capitals, who have the same difficulty closing as does Sergio Garcia in golf. All are well-paid, so there’s no sense in feeling sorry for them, or for the fans who burn through a lot of money to attend games.

100 mph in a 50 mph zone: the motorman should spend the rest of his life in prison, whether he was drunk or sober. What was he thinking? Was he imitating the jerk who flew that plane into a mountain? Let’s see what excuses his lawyers conjure.

Are there going to be any marches in support of the hammer wielding loon whom the NYPD captured yesterday? The guy’s lucky to be alive, surviving gunshots. He should spend the rest of his life in an institution.

I hadn't heard if ABC's Nashville had been renewed for a fourth season. It must have been, as last night's finale left a lot unanswered. Will Deacon survive his liver cancer operation? It would be very surprising if he didn't. How will Will's coming out affect his career? I don't think there are any openly gay major country artists, so the writers won't have anything but imagination with which to work that angle. Will Scarlett dump the doctor and go back to Gunnar? I've suspected that when it came time to meet the doctor's parents they would disapprove, given her background. Is Teddy headed to the pen? I don't see how he avoids it. Is Juliette suffering post partum depression? That seems phony. It will be more interesting if she has simply returned to self-centered ambition. I'm not sure I'd miss the show if it were cancelled. Sometimes viewing becomes a habit. I still watch Person of Interest even though it has become a parody of itself.

It was romance day at the floating book shop. All but one of the novels that sold were by Danielle Steel, the other by Nora Roberts. My thanks to the ladies who bought, and to the one who donated a blend of fiction and non.
