Selling My Books on the Streets of Brooklyn 9/3 - Kudos

Dodgers' pitcher Clayton Kershaw, 26, is performing at a level that, if continued, will place him among the all-time greats. The big Texan, 6'3", 225 pounds, began his MLB career in 2008. He was good his first three seasons. Since 2010 he has been phenomenal. Overall, he is 94-49 with an ERA of 2.49. This year he is 17-3 with an ERA of 1.70, has 202 strikeouts in 169 innings, and has had a stretch of 41 consecutive scoreless innings. The opposition is hitting .191 against him, lefties .174! Shades of Dodgers' Hall of Famer and Lafayette H.S. grad Sandy Koufax. He has been so dominant that a bookie is no longer giving odds on his chances of winning the Cy Young Award. Kudos, young man -- and may that golden arm remain healthy for a long time.

The weather was considerably cooler than yesterday, and the floating book shop's good fortune continued. I was even treated to an impressive display of fortitude by a middle aged woman. As she was pulling her car into the lead spot on the opposite side of East 13th, a guy driving an SUV tried to bully her by pulling in right behind her. She was three-quarters into the spot and unable to back up. She got out, approached and held her ground. Surprisingly, the argument was civil. At first I wondered if the guy had been day dreaming while waiting for an opening, and was pissed at having been beaten to the punch. Since he gave it up, he was probably in the wrong all the while and merely rankled that he'd missed an opportunity by seconds, which happens all the time in the city. Kudos, madam.

My thanks to Al, who not only donated three books, but bought Killing. Thanks also to the other kind folks who made purchases.
