The Writer's Life 4/9 - Masters

I caught the last hour-and-a-half of the Masters. I was not as swept up in it as usual, despite the stellar play of Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth and Ricky Fowler. Kudos to Reed for fending off the pressure the others put on him. His nickname is Captain America because of his Ryder Cup heroics and his enthusiasm for the Olympics, which is not shared by many of his peers. His brash comments have also made him golf's most hated man, at least according to the press. Whatever - he has won the coveted green jacket. The second best story of the event involves Tony Finau, who finished tied for tenth place, which isn't especially remarkable except for the fact that he had dislocated his ankle Wednesday while celebrating a hole-in-one he made during the annual par-three tournament. Awesome, dude. Here's the winner:

RIP Chuck McCann, 83, who had a long, extraordinary career in entertainment. Born in Brooklyn, he began as a child actor in radio, segued to a night club act as a young adult, did stage work, including Shakespeare, and then found his real niche in TV. NYC baby-boomers remember him as the host of 1960's Sunday morning children's show Let's Have Fun! There are 163 titles listed under his name at IMDb. Many are voice-overs. He also appeared in commercials, most memorably as Oliver Hardy in the 1970's. Although his forte was comedy, he did dramatic work as well, appearing in shows such as Columbo, Kojak, Knots Landing, St. Elsewhere and Boston Legal. Well done, sir. Thank you. Here's the cover of his memoir:

I'm not surprised that EPA chief Scott Pruitt is under attack. He is trying to end the over-reach of one of the most powerful parts of the swamp. Environmental zealots are relentless. If Pruitt is sacrificed, I hope President Trump appoints someone similar in his place.

There were no sales today at the floating book shop, but Mr. Conspiracy settled his tab. Thank you.
