The Writer's Life 4/3 - In the Cards

My mom threw away most of my baseball cards. I doubt any were worth much. Here are 10 of the Most Valuable Baseball Cards in the World, from an article by Matt Stofsky at mentalfloss.com, edited by yours truly:
1. Honus Wagner 1909-1911 American Tobacco Co. T206 - $3.12 million. It's estimated that only 25-200 were released. It's considered the Holy Grail.

2. Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps - $1.13 million. Not his rookie card. Its value is based on its condition, 8.5 on scale of ten.

3. Babe Ruth 1916 Sporting News - $717,000. Pre-Yankees.

4. Pete Rose/Pedro Gonzalez/Ken McMullen/Al Weis 1963 Topps - $717,000. Valuable because of Rose and its perfect ten condition.

5. "Shoeless" Joe Jackson 1909 American Caramel - $667,149. Considered his rookie card, condition an eight.

6. Nolan Ryan/Jerry Koosman 1968 Topps - $612,359. Perfect ten, a nine decreases the value to $20,000-$30,000.

7. Babe Ruth 1914 Baltimore News - $575,000. The Sultan of Swat as a minor-leaguer. Valuable despite its condition being only a two.

8. Willie Mays 1952 Topps - $478,000. Although not his rookie card, it was the first issued by Topps.

9. Roberto Clemente 1955 Topps - $478,000. Rookie card.

10. Joe Doyle N.Y. NAT'L 1909-1911 American Tobacco Co. T206 - $414,750. Who? Why? An error placed him in the wrong league. He actually was a member of the Highlanders, who soon became the Yankees. His career record was 22-21.

Whatever happened to Stormy Daniels? The mainstream media seems to be shunning her. Of course, it's not because Trump's poll numbers have increased since she received all that air time.

The scaffold saved the day. It began raining as soon as I hauled the last two crates underneath it. Since the precipitation was light, it wasn't a problem. And it turned out to be the best session of the year. There have been days of perfect weather in which no sales came my way. Go figure. This is what sold: two books on finance, three in the Weird series - Hollywood, Massachusetts and New England; a huge Russian-English language instruction set featuring cassettes and a book; paperback and hardcover thrillers in Russian; Blood Game by Iris Johansen and the non-fiction A Woman Scorned by Lisa Pulitzer; and Jerusalem, The Biography by Simon Sebag Montefiore. My thanks to the kind folks that made those purchases.
