The Writer's Life 2/14 - All Kinds

As the saying goes: It takes all kinds to make a world. Today's NY Post profiled two cases of the very unusual. A Palestinian barber in Gaza doesn't just blow-dry hair, he blowtorches it. He applies a protective liquid coating - he declined to disclose its contents - before aiming for the head and pressing the button on a small device. He says: "...I keep it on and off for 10 seconds or 15 seconds...." He charges 20 shekels ($5.20) for a haircut and fire-straightening. Next!

A couple in Texas has a rare house pet - a bison, which they've had since it was a baby. It eats at the table and watches TV in its own room. I imagine it's taken for a walk when it has to poop.

As we Italian-Americans of NYC say: Sozzeach his own.

It's a sad day for fans of the football Giants. WR Victor Cruz has been released. A 2010 free agent out of UMass, he had a stunning impact on the team, making huge plays, delighting fans. He was a big factor in the Super Bowl run of 2011. He was sidelined in 2014 & '15 by serious injuries. He had a decent 2016 season. I assume he will test his value on the free agent market. It wouldn't be surprising if he returned to Big Blue at a reduced rate. Good luck, sir.

According to Yahoo's Odd News, a California man stole a mortuary van that had a dead body inside. Undeterred, he returned it, drove off with another, but was tracked down by police. "Theft of a Dead Body" was not included in the list of charges, as authorities believe he did not intend to steal it.

It was a cold  session of the floating book shop. The first hour and a half was spent waiting for the clouds to crawl by so the sun could provide some warmth. There occurred one of those occasional spooky oddities. I was curious why Barbara Gordon's 1979 memoir about her battle with prescription drug addiction, I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can, hadn't attracted any attention, when a woman came along and spotted it. She also bought Chill of Fear by Kay Hooper. My thanks, and also to the lady who purchased Antioxidant Revolution by Kenneth Cooper, and special thanks to all the ladies who wished me Happy Valentine's Day, which I pass along to anyone kind enough to have read this.
