The Writer's Life 8/3 - Pasta & Oysters

Just when it seems the world couldn't get any wackier... A blurb in the NY Post's Weird But True column led me to Wiki for the following, edited by yours truly: The Flying Spaghetti Monster is the deity of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, or Pastafarianism, a social movement that promotes a light-hearted view of religion and opposes the teaching of intelligent design and creationism in public schools. It is legally recognized as a religion in the Netherlands and New Zealand. A U.S. federal judge has ruled it is not a real religion. The FSM was first described in a satirical open letter by Bobby Henderson in 2005 to protest the Kansas State Board of Education decision to permit the teaching intelligent design as an alternative to evolution. In the letter, he demanded equal time for Flying Spaghetti Monsterism. After he published the letter on his website, the FSM rapidly became an Internet phenomenon and a symbol of opposition to the teaching of intelligent design. The central "belief" is that an invisible and undetectable entity created the universe. Pirates are revered as the original Pastafarians. Henderson asserts that a decline in the number of pirates over the years is the cause of global warming. Here's a decal for cars:

There have been plenty of news stories about parents wary of the vaccines administered to children. According to an article in today's Post, certain Brooklynites are balking at having their pets vaccinated, claiming it causes autism and/or other problems. Why am I not surprised?

The French are offering fresh oysters from vending machines in the hope of selling more of the delicacy outside business hours. When you just gotta have some. Here's a pic:

My thanks to the kind folks who bought books today, and to the gentleman who made a two-for-one swap of thrillers in Russian. Bon voyage to young Alun, who's off to the Ukraine for his brother's wedding. Departure is six PM.
