Selling My Books on the Streets of Brooklyn 8/4 - Odds & Ends

Alright, ladies, line up. A Japanese spa on 5th Avenue in Manhattan is offering an $180 facial using a combination of rice bran and the poop of a nightingale. It’s said to work wonders.

I have no sympathy for ARod or any player suspended for using PEDs, but I think it would be only fair to suspend any of the owners still in the game who ignored the obvious during the post-strike desperation. Baseball thrived financially like never before, and those people profited handsomely from the renewed interest juiced players brought to the product.

Three days after completing jury duty in federal court, I’ve received a questionnaire from the state and city in preparation for an appearance for them. Fortunately, the time I just put in will allow me to avoid this call.

A friend sent me one of those political emails. Here are a couple of gems from it:

My thanks ol' Carmine, who referred to me as his favorite writer, and who purchased Close to the Edge. My thanks also to the young man who overpaid for the huge pictorial on Indonesia art, to the elderly woman who recently had hip replacement and who bought Sue Grafton's T Is for Trespass; and Lorraine, who has donated so many books to me and refused to take Stuart Woods' Kisser as a gift.
