Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyu, frustrated by world opinion and his treatment by President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, pitched a rant yesterday. His words were cited in a editorial in the NY Post under the title: Bibi's Red Line. Here's the last part of it: "Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu described an Israeli Army hospital set up to treat Syrian refugees, who arrive bleeding and often near death: 'On my visit I met two such Syrians, a shell-shocked father and his badly wounded 5-year-old boy. A few days earlier, the man’s wife and baby daughter were blown to bits by Iranian bombs dropped by Assad’s air force. Now the grieving father was holding his little boy in his arms, and Israeli doctors were struggling to save the boy’s life . . . Those Syrians discovered what you’ve always known to be true: In the Middle East, bludgeoned by butchery and barbarism, Israel is humane; Israel is compassionate; Israel is a force for good. . . On the other side of that moral divide, steeped in blood and savagery, stand the forces of terror: Iran, Assad, Hezbollah, al-Qaeda and many others. Did you ever hear about Syria sending a field hospital anywhere? Did you ever hear about Iran sending a humanitarian delegation overseas? No? You missed that memo? You know why? You know why you haven’t heard anything about that? Because the only thing that Iran sends abroad are rockets, terrorists and missiles to murder, maim and menace the innocent.'" Kudos, sir. Those who think that settlement of the Palestinian issue, with Israel making all the concessions, will go a long way to bring peace to the Middle East and an end to terrorism are naive.
At last an easy session for the floating book shop in terms of weather. With the sun shining, I was able to put in more time, which led to the sale of two books in Russian, and greetings from several passersby I hadn't seen in a while. My thanks to all, especially the gentleman who purchased four books in Russian as soon as I'd set up. Herbie bought a Mario Lanza bio. The handsome Hollywood tenor was only 38 when felled by a heart attack in 1959. A weight problem had him taking drugs to reduce. He was also known to drink heavily. What I hadn't known and Herbie pointed out was that Lanza's wife, Betty, 37, died five months later, the victim of an overdose of alcohol and tranquilizers. Officially, the death was listed as accidental, but many believe it was deliberate. She left behind four children, who were raised by the
paternal grandparents. Of the four, Colleen, a
screenwriter, died in an automobile accident in 1997. Elisa is a
housewife with two sons; Damon is involved with a restaurant and a
motorcycle business; Marc died of a heart attack in 1991.
