Kudos to Ellen DeGeneres, who recently offered this politically incorrect gem. I’m not sure if it was during the Oscars, which I didn‘t watch. “Possibility Number One: 12 Years a Slave wins Best Picture; Possibility Number Two: You’re all racists.” Remember when comics fearlessly, routinely skewered everyone and everything, not just one side of the political spectrum? How refreshing.
Pope Francis misspoke during his weekly Vatican blessing. He used cazzo rather that caso. The latter means “in this case,” the former means "male member" and also stands in for the F-word as in: "Che cazzo fa?" Are cazzo and gazzo interchangeable, or has the press made an error? My oldest niece would know, but I'm reluctant to ask her. Of course, the slip has gone viral. It is often a cruel world.
In his op-ed piece in the today’s NY Post, George Will and two contributors to the letters to the editor likened Russia’s move on the Crimea to the Nazis’ on the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia in 1938, a preview of their march into Poland in 1939, the official start of WWII, although several significant events, including the aforementioned, east and west, preceded it.
I dreamed of horses. As I awoke I had a silly thought. There are countless scenes in westerns where men are gathered round the campfire, their horses loosely tethered nearby. Did the animals ever get frisky and start doing what comes natural? Has this ever been addressed on film or TV, especially in the modern fare on Cable where profanity is common? Why this has never occurred to me previously I cannot even begin to fathom. I mean, after Mel Brooks introduced the effects of beans on the digestive system in Blazing Saddles (1974), one would think nothing was taboo. In one of the Gunsmoke movies made after the demise of the series, Matt Dillon examines manure to determine how much of a lead his prey has. My buddy Bags and I had a nice laugh about that one.
I usually post on my Facebook page where and what time the floating book shop will operate. Since the weather has been so tough, there have been many days when I don't make a decision until I check conditions. It was about 20 degrees when I left the apartment at 11:15. Since there was no wind, I decided to open up for at least an hour. The madness paid off immediately, as a gentleman purchased two Daniel Silva spy novels, large, heavy hardcovers. My thanks, sir, and to Cabbie, who traded three of his thrillers for one of mine.
