The Writer's Life 4/11 - Earth & Beyond

Here's an interesting point made in today's NY Post's Fast Takes column. On the night 60 Minutes aired its interview with porn star Stormy Daniels, Madame Secretary, which aired at 10PM on CBS, focused on genocide in Myanmar. Fiction was infinitely more serious than fact, at least for one evening. Here's the lovely star of the series, Tea Leoni:

And the Post's Weird But True column provides fodder for sci-fi writers. NASA plans to release human sperm into space in order to study how weightlessness affects the ability to move and prepare to fuse with an egg. I can't help but think about the image of the star child at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968):

And there was a great story in the NBA last night. L.A. Lakers Rookie Andre Ingram, 32, made his first appearance after 10 years, 384 games in developmental leagues. And he made the most of it, scoring 19 points, grabbing three rebounds, blocking three shots, dishing out an assist and making a steal - and he had only one turnover. Fans were chanting "MVP! MVP!" He earned a degree in physics from American University in 2007. Kudos, sir. He is not the oldest rookie ever to appear in an NBA game. Pablo Prigioni was 35 when he earned that distinction. Here's Ingram:

My thanks to Andu, who bought The Future of Humanity: Terraforming Mars, Interstellar Travel, Immortality, and Our Destiny Beyond Earth by Michio Kaku, and to the woman who purchased a hardcover novel in Russian, and to Jeff who selected a how-to book on getting published, and to the woman who chose Guilty Pleasures by Lawrence Sanders.
