Today's Post had several interesting items: An Upper East Side kosher supervisor was fired after complaining about insect-infected food. His boss said: "Don't worry, it's protein." Yum!
Lonely Planet, known for travel guides, has named Philadelphia as the top American tourist attraction of 2016. Natchez, Mississippi was second, Yellowstone third. I passed through the city of brotherly love once, but I can't say I've actually been there. I've never been to Natchez or Yellowstone. I suppose the publication will attract more attention by citing unconventional choices.
The Commander of Manhattan's Midtown South precinct, which includes the Port Authority Bus Terminal, has taken a novel approach to crime fighting, publishing a top ten list of recidivists in his area, miscreants he would like to see jailed permanently. The perp at the top has an interesting resume`. Since 1983 Glenn Johnson has been arrested 158 times, an average of once every 76 days. Along the way he's been charged with reckless endangerment, assault, menacing, obstructing traffic, sexual abuse, robbery, trespassing and weapon possession. I guess the phrase used on so many old TV shows, "Three-time loser," which cops used to threaten someone they wanted to spill the beans, no longer applies or was simply creative writing. If I remember correctly, a three-time loser (felony convictions), faced life imprisonment. Johnson has a big lead on the second guy on the list, who's been busted 129 times. Only one woman cracked it, nailed a mere 16 times. Get to work, you two.
I feel dumb. While watching the Super Bowl halftime show, I had no idea Beyonce's performance was anti-cop, as many posts on my Facebook feed allege. Many pointed out the irony of her having received a police escort to the stadium. I would not be able to identify even one of her songs, so I will not comment further. I plead ignorance.
With the weatherman predicting a deep freeze until the middle of next week starting tomorrow, I had little choice but to give the floating book shop a shot today. The results weren't too good, but I did get to converse with many acquaintances. My thanks to the lady who bought Rebecca Wells' smash hit, The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood, and to Herbie, who donated two more paperback mysteries.
