The Writer's Life 5/2 - Thinking Outside & Inside the Box

There's a lot of interesting stuff in today's NY Post: In an op-ed piece, Betsy McCaughey states that 80% of the illegals recently rounded up in NY by ICE have been either convicted or charged with a crime. The numbers are almost exact in California... An article focuses on a new practice by congressman - sleeping in the office to save money, citing the high cost of rentals in DC. It's estimated that 100 reps, one-fifth of the House, are doing it. 50 have owned up, including NYers Dan Donovan (R) and Gregory Meeks (D). They bathe at the gym provided to members. Others want to introduce a law to ban this, citing it as unseemly and unsanitary. No senators are doing it. Reps are paid $174,000 annually. I don't see anything wrong with it. Wouldn't it be great if these folks could come up with equally novel ways to curtail government spending?... In the past four years 100+ Uber drivers have been accused of sexual assault or abuse. That's horrible, but how does it compare to the rate among regular cabbies?...  The Weird But True column reveals the strategy employed by the owners of a California 7/11 to keep away panhandlers and loiterers - blasting classical music through its outside speakers... And another item in WBT highlights another creative thinker. After being banned from a stadium for being too rowdy, a Turkish fan hired a crane to watch his favorite soccer team. From Yahoo's Odd News, edited by yours truly: A fingerprint left in a hunk of Play-Doh has led to a shoplifting arrest in Massachusetts. The suspect used the popular toy substance to try to neutralize anti-theft devices at Walmart. The 55-year-old perp has a long history of theft. The charge is "unlawful removal of an anti-theft device." Here's a pic:

My thanks to the kind folks who bought, donated and swapped books on this gorgeous summer-like day, especially to Jimmy, who for the second straight session purchased non-fiction in bulk.
