The Writer's Life 1/3 - The Calm Before

According to an article in the NY Post, the death toll in Iraq is now 21. Hundreds have been arrested.

In a Post column covering President Trump's latest Twitter activity, it uses the tag "Commander in Tweet." Love it!

And in another Post article comes hope for those who, like me, fear Alzheimer's and senility. When London researchers recently tested a Type 2 Diabetes drug, they discovered it may significantly reverse memory loss, protect against brain degeneration, and boost cell growth.

Tonight at eight on Fox The X-Files returns. According to IMDb, ten episodes will air. I look forward to it, although last season's six-episode run was disappointing. Scully!

And speaking of the bizarre, here's something from Yahoo Sports... Participants in sports are often superstitious. For instance, a manager may step over the base line on his way to a discussion on the pitcher's mound. Most actions are similarly benign. A European hockey team has taken superstition to a bizarre degree. The KHL comprises 27 member clubs based in Belarus, China, Finland, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Russia and Slovakia. The Kazakhstan-based team is in the midst of a five-game losing streak and sits outside a playoff spot. During a recent practice members brought a sheep to center ice, killed it and sprinkled its blood all over the playing surface and nets.

Someone has been putting up authentic-looking fake highway signs in California. Here's one:

It was a nice two-day reprieve from the floating book shop's bad winter weather hiatus. Now a storm is coming, bringing four to six inches of snow and high winds to NYC. Bitter cold will follow. There's only a slight chance I will be back in action on Sunday when the temperature is predicted to be in the low 20's. After that there will be two days of rain - if the forecast is right. So it looks like Wednesday will be most probable for the shop's return. Mayor Mike, who expects to be gone by next Thursday, has bequeathed the remainder of the vinyl albums to me. The price now drops to two bucks a piece. My thanks to the gentleman who bought one by Kenny Rogers, and to the young man who rode up on his bike and purchased two Scientific American Journals, The Ann Landers Encyclopedia, A to Z: Improve Your Life Emotionally, Medically, Sexually, Socially, Spiritually, and The Dance of Anger: A Woman's Guide to Changing the Patterns of Intimate Relationships by Harriet Lerner. My thanks also to the woman who donated a crime novel in Russian. Not a single work of fiction in English sold the past two sessions.
