In a piece on the tax delinquencies of the average Greek, Laura Italiano quotes an official: “a poor country full of rich people.” The subways have no turnstiles. People are supposed to pay via the honor system. Not nearly enough do.
In a letter to the editor, citizen Frank Diaz-Balart describes the feud between NY governor Andrew Cuomo and NYC mayor Bill deBlasio as a: “…mano a mano, ‘do, si, do,’ of idiocy.” Kudos, sir.
The floating book shop scored the perfect parking spot, right under the tree in front of the Chase bank at Bay Parkway and 85th, but it was not a harbinger of good luck. My thanks to the woman who donated two books in Russian and four "cooking books", as she so charmingly put it, and to the woman who bought Dolci Tuscani by Anne Bianchi & Sandra Lotti Bianchi, which focuses on baking desserts. It was the only sale of the day. I did have a one-hour visit from B.S. Bob, a graduate of Johns Hopkins, who spoke of looking into the beady eyes of commencement speaker Edward R. Murrow, whom he passed on his way to receiving his diploma.
