The Writer's Life 11/8 - Bean Counting

The election results are being spun by some as having been determined by angry old white men. There’s a lot of truth in that, but in an op-ed piece in today's NY Post Robert George puts forth several interesting and surprising facts that mitigate the idea. In some case the AOWM’s have gone for candidates that do not resemble them physically. Among the five women governors currently holding office, three are Republicans. In terms of Latinos, two governors are Republicans, one Democrat. There are also two Asian Republican governors, no Dems. In the senate, the breakdown among blacks is one to one, among women it is six to 13, with a run-off due in Louisiana and Democratic incumbent Mary Landrieu expected to lose. Since George did not cite any stats on the House, I looked it up at Wiki. The ratio among females is 20 Republics/62 Democrats. I did a quick count on minority GOP members and found only five listed. I guess the elected GOP women don’t realize their party is at war with them.

Be careful what you say to yourself. Pro golfer Patrick Reed excoriated himself in blue and “homophobic” terms after a three-putt yesterday. The rant was picked up by a mike. He now faces disciplinary action. Imagine how much money would be raised if the guardians of political correctness were able to tap into the thoughts of the average person.

Since I had so much rest yesterday, I was up at 4:30 this morning. To kill time, I researched alternatives to Cablevision’s TV package. A friend loves her Roku, a streaming device that attaches to the rear of a TV. Its minimal package is currently being offered for $39, and no subscription is required. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a list of what channels are offered in it. I would really like to hook up a digital antenna to my TV, but I’m not sure about which I would need and if it would work in my building. I hate being at the mercy of the shyster cable companies, who are making up for the lost revenue on TV packages by jacking up the cost of internet subscription.

What started as a promising day for the floating book shop turned into a disappointment. Kinesha and Barry bought four books between them, and Jen said she was going to buy one of my books when she returned from her doctor's appointment. Then, just after one,  the possibility of a shower that was predicted occurred. I had to scramble to get everything into the trunk of my car. While I was seated inside, hoping the rain would pass, Crazy Joe, my most generous customer, approached, soaking wet. He spotted me and said he couldn't stop. When it looked like the rain was going to persist, I went shopping. By the time I exited CVS, the rain had stopped. I wondered if I'd missed Jen. I waited until two-thirty, but she didn't show.
