Kyle Smith has an interesting op-ed piece in today's NY Post. Here are highlights: "Ever wonder why there is a perpetual crisis of affordable housing when our elected officials have always promised to take care of it? Why does no one seem to complain about an affordable-automobile crisis or an affordable-food crisis or an affordable-television crisis? The only things that seem alarmingly expensive are the things government is forever pledging to make more affordable: housing, education and health care... Do you walk into a new Toyota showroom with $499 and expect them to come up with a car for you?... There is no constitutional right that everyone who wants to live in New York can. And yet, surprise! As of 2011, New Yorkers spent, at the median, 32.5% of income on housing. This is just about the only statistic you can find where we rate about average: Nationwide that figure is 33.1%."
An article by John Fund and Hans Von Spakovsky details Attorney General Eric Holder's losing record in cases his office has argued in the Supreme Court. The piece intimates that he is 0-20, and in several of those cases the court was unanimous, 9-0, in its ruling, which is remarkable, given that four of the members are liberals. I'm not sure if such futility is unprecedented, if perhaps Republican administrations have also failed so miserably in this regard. The Obama administration is largely going it alone these days, bypassing congress through executive fiats. In Peggy Noonan's piece she says in effect that the President has shut himself off and is counting on history proving him right. Another article states that in order to foil Hillary's candidacy the Obamas will throw their weight behind Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren. If Warren won the presidency, it would be the biggest upset of all-time in any endeavor. As it stands at present, Hillary, as bumbling a candidate as she has proven to be, is the Democrats only hope to retain the White House. Of course, that election is more than two years away, and a lot can happen in that span. Unless things change dramatically in the next few months, a huge change in the make up of congress is coming.
Occasionally, liberal friends will post a blurb on Facebook that attempt to shame conservatives. A few are convinced Jesus is in their corner, just as many on the right believe He sides with them. This is what I sense Jesus would think about the USA: "Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, prescription drug benefits, free breakfast and lunches, rent and heating subsidies, free cell phones, condoms and syringes, the largest economy in the world - well done, America. I'm more needed in Africa and the Middle East." Of course, I know that there are a small percentage who face dire circumstances in this country, but it has been adequately addressed. The safety net is huge. If it continues to grow it may create more problems than it solves. We may even have reached that point.
