The fantastic finish is the dream of every athlete and sports fan. Yesterday’s Alabama-Auburn game ended memorably, providing the unscripted drama that makes athletic competition so wonderful. Many are calling it the greatest finish ever. I don’t know if it matches Bobby Thompson’s homer, "the shot heard round the world," in the 1951 playoff that drove a stake into the heart of the Dodgers and their fans and sent the NY Giants to the World Series, but it’s close. The Crimson Tide and Tigers have been playing the annual Iron Bowl since the late 1800’s. It is a fierce in-state rivalry, to say the least. Alabama, the reigning national champion, was undefeated going into the game. Auburn has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround from a year ago when it finished 3-9, just two years after winning the National Championship. Coach Gene Chizik was fired and Gus Malzahn, the offensive coordinator during its championship season, was hired away from Arkansas State. He certainly has paid his dues, coaching 14 years at the high school level in Arkansas, winning three state titles. Here is a clip from the game. It is preceded by a 15-second ad. The venerable Verne Lundquist did the play by play and former NFL QB Gary Danielson the commentary: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/24305783/gif-another-miracle-at-jordan-hare
Here are examples of contributors who use Twitter well, culled from today’s NY Post, in this case pertaining to the easiest of targets -- ObamaCare: “Hidden Clause is coming to town” - sweetydoriti; “Dude Where’s my Coverage?” -- Xsmalljay; “It used to be a Wonderful Life” -- Bella Pelosi; “Throw Mama From Her Insurance Plan” -- JoeFL65; “It’s a wonderful lie” -- UniteRight. I guess the enrollment site is fixed now and we can all relax and move on. Those government deadlines are always met.
It was a beautiful day to sell books. Too bad almost no one was interested. My thanks to the gentleman who purchased the book in Russian. And thanks also to AuthorHouse for the royalty check for Close to the Edge.
